Jacques Leonard MAILLET 1823-1894 "Maternity" original terracotta.
Jacques Maillet began his artistic studies in a drawing school in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, then entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the workshops of Jean-Jacques Feuchère and then James Pradier. He obtained the Grand Prize of Rome in 1847 with Telemachus bringing back to Phalante the urn containing the ashes of Hippias. He spent four years at the Académie de France in Rome between 1848 and 1851. On his return to Paris, he participated in several Salons and exhibitions which earned him various medals. He then worked on major Parisian ornamental works for the Louvre Palace, the town hall and the Palais Garnier.
