Empire clock signed Etienne TAVERNIER active in Paris between 1800 and 1830 "Androcles and the lion" Jump in search
Androcles removes a thorn from the paw of a lion.
Androcles was a Roman slave.
It is said that having been delivered to the animals in the Great Circus of Rome for escaping from his master, proconsul of Africa, he was recognized and spared by a lion. By escaping from his master's house and fleeing to the desert, he would have healed the animal and lived with him. Delivered to wild animals, he must die. However, the lion recognized him and showed him signs of affection. The Emperor, learning this explanation from the mouth of Androcles, graced him and gave him a lion's gift. Androcles took him on a leash all over the city, receiving money from passers-by.
