French school of the XIXth century after Raphael
Reference : A1222-0021
French school of the XIXth century after Raphael, portrait of Baldassare Castiglione, oil on canvas, gilded stucco canal frame (93x108cm) Between 1513 and 1516, Baldassare Castiglione made friends with Raphaël, who painted his portrait with very friendly care. Raphaël would have painted two portraits of his friend, in 1516 and in 1519 and it is probably the latter which constitutes that of the Louvre museum. This portrait stayed in the collection of the Duke of Urbino (1631) before joining that of Cardinal de Mazarin and then passed into the collection of Louis XIV.
