Lothar von Seebach dominated the Alsatian art scene for nearly forty years. Dating from 1879 the artist was then 26 years old, this painting was published in the journal d'Alsace of May-June 1879 "Truth, natural, extreme awareness in the execution of details, good color without overload and without drought, such are the qualities of this beginner who promises a master. His page is full of naive and poetic grace, and we rightly admire the ewer and the tray carried by the child that the painter has so to speak chiseled on the canvas, the tapestry on which the subject stands out is reproduced with patience, one could say with veneration. The head of the page is vague, a little vaporous, observe some visitors who have not seen M. de Seebach's model , a fair-haired girl who frolic every day near the young artist's studio.The child has this physiognomy and she was transported alive on the painting.
